Sea trout season
It's always sea trout season.
The sea trout is an androe fish, which means it migrates from saltwater to freshwater to spawn, just like you know from salmon .
During the summer months, fishing primarily takes place in the stream, as the fish migrate up here. However, this does not mean that they disappear completely from the coast, as some fish skip spawning for a year.
Spring and autumn are fantastic periods on the coast, where you can really experience a true "fishing bonanza". If you hit the right fishing spot, there is a chance to really catch a lot of fish.
In the winter months, it's a slightly different sea trout season. Here, it's all about catching the really big skipper on the outer coast, who have skipped a spawning season to eat big.
It is these shiny skippers that are the ultimate dream fish for many sea trout anglers.
Get started with sea trout fishing on the coast
We at Nordic Anglers make many video guides, below you can see Daniel explaining how to get started with sea trout fishing on the coast.
He explains everything about choosing a fishing spot, fly gear, conservation areas and general fishing tactics - we're pretty proud of the video ourselves.
In fact, we have written an entire article just about fly fishing for sea trout on the coast, read it if you want to dive even deeper into the wonderful world of coastal fishing.
The video below is part of 3 videos that cover most things related to fishing on the coast - don't worry, there are also many good tips that can be used for spinning fishing.
Flies for sea trout
As fly fishermen, we are very particular about our choice of flies.
That's why we have a large selection of sea trout flies , so we have something to match every situation.
We have, among other things, a huge selection of ready-tied flies , which are also well suited for fishing with bombarda floats.
No fly is always the best, and it is therefore important to have several options in your fly box .
It is often necessary to adapt to the current conditions in order to be successful with your sea trout fishing.
Whether you are looking for coastal flies or flies for the river , we have both kits to tie them and ready-tied varieties.
At Nordic Anglers, we of course have everything you need for fly fishing gear .

Sea trout in the stream
Sea trout fishing in the stream is versatile and truly exciting.
Many anglers go from a hobby level to an inveterate angler once they start hunting the shy sea trout that have been drawn up into the streams.
It is a fishery that invites both downstream fishing with wet flies, but also the visual upstream fishing with foam beetles - both are fantastic entertainment.
The euphoria that comes over you when the large blowfly disappears in a whirlpool, in the middle of the bend of the stream, is difficult to describe - you have to experience it yourself.
Upstream or downstream
In spinning fishing, most river fishing for sea trout takes place upstream; it is the opposite in fly fishing.
Upstream fly fishing is most often done with a foam beetle in the twilight hours , while classic downstream fly fishing can be done with everything from bulge flies like the octopus , to small loaded flies like a tilda.

We love sea trout fishing, and over time we have made a lot of different video guides that will make you more knowledgeable about the fish and fishing for them.

Downstream sea trout in the stream
If you want to learn more about the sea trout's locations and hiding places, you should watch this video. In the video, Daniel explains how he conducts his sea trout fishing in the stream, and how he lures the most difficult sea trout to bite.
We ourselves thought it was a nice fishing film that explains all the little details that will help you catch more fish.
Fishing is not just for the early risers
Sea trout fishing is often associated with the early or late hours. Although summer fishing is fantastic at this time of day, it can also be done at other times of the day.
Especially in late summer and autumn, you can experience fantastic fishing in the middle of the day. The time of year often means that there is more water in the stream and the fish are less crowded.
At this point, the sea trout really needs to be provoked into biting, and small flies in red or orange have an almost magical effect on sea trout in spawning form.
Upstream sea trout fishing in the stream
It's no secret that Daniel has a passion for dry fly fishing for sea trout. That's why he and Stefan have repeatedly ventured into the Danish river valley to make great fishing films about the exciting and visual fishing.
Daniel has also written the ultimate guide to foam beetle fishing , which really dives into the fishing and the gear used.
This film is our second version of the guide, which has been updated with even more great tips and tricks for sea trout fishing.
In fact, it has become the part of the sea trout season that we look forward to the most - try it and you'll find out why.

How do you catch a sea trout?
You catch a sea trout by finding it. You have to go find the fish, rather than let the fish find you.
Sea trout are predatory fish that often hunt prey in very shallow water. Therefore, focus your fishing on the inner part of the coast.
Local knowledge can really improve your fishing, and we therefore recommend that you get to know a few spots well. Then you can also move between them, if there are no sea trout at one place, then there might be another.
In the river, the river reportedly does not feed. However, it can still be caught on many different baits.
Again, we recommend that you have a few different flies in the box for when you are hunting the fish.
Adapt your sea trout flies to the conditions
Some days the stream is low and clear, and small lightly dressed flies may be the best choice. The next day the stream may have risen and the water is murky, here flies like the monk are great for getting the attention of the sea trout.
Ask the locals for advice. Many local anglers have a lot of knowledge that they are happy to share. You are also more than welcome to contact us at Nordic Anglers , we have fished most of the watercourses, and always have our finger on the pulse. Maybe we can help you on the right path.
What weather is best for sea trout fishing?
In spring and winter, it is best to fish for sea trout in the middle of the day in warm weather, preferably sunny. The rest of the year, it is generally preferable if there are drifting clouds and changing weather.
This is because sea trout have the same temperature as the water they are in. This means that you want a water temperature that is ideally between 8 and 14 degrees Celsius. At this temperature, the fish are very active and like to eat. If the water is too cold, they cannot digest the food, which is why you sometimes hear about fishing in warm pockets.
It is in these pockets that the sea trout feed when the water temperature is very low.
Remember that the fjord and coves warm up faster than the open coast. This is due to the water depth.
It's always good weather for catching sea trout
Remember that the most important thing is to have the fly in the water.
If you're considering a fishing trip, just get out to the water. The only thing that's certain is that you won't catch anything from your couch.
It's always about finding a sea trout that is willing to bite, and there will probably be one for you.
Tip: sometimes you run into a whole school of inactive fish - move on.
If you've fished them with a few different flies and nothing happens, move on and come back later or another day.
There is a good chance that you will find the fish in the same place again, under similar conditions.
It is better to find 2 solitary fish that want to bite than 50 inactive fish that only want to tease.
Autumn and spring are great on the coast, as it is the sea trout season when most fish actively take your fly.

What is the minimum size for sea trout?
The minimum size for sea trout is 40 centimeters. However, in some places the fish must be larger before being taken home. In other places there are local protections.
Therefore, always make sure to check the minimum size here .
Is it difficult to catch sea trout?
No, it's not difficult to catch sea trout.
And fortunately, it gets easier and easier as you get to know your fishing waters.
In our videos, we recommend using fishingindenmark to find fishing spots if you are new to sea trout fishing.
