We have everything you need to get started with fly fishing.
Fly fishing becomes much more beginner-friendly with the right tackle.
That's why we've put together a variety of sets to help you get started. We've matched lines and rods so everything just works.
Why fly fishing?
You should start fly fishing if you want to get even more out of your fishing trip.
Fly fishing is an "active" form of fishing where you always have contact with your fly and by extension also the fish when it bites.
Fly fishing is a completely different experience than spinning fishing.
You are a more active part of each cast and you clearly feel each bite as you stand with the fly line in your hand.
The tackle is very different from your normal spinning tackle, although you can tie flies for bombarda fishing . Our best tip for getting started with fly fishing is to leave the spinning rod at home. We suggest this, as it is all too easy to “return” once you are out on the water.
Being a beginner in fly fishing doesn't have to be difficult.
Below we will answer the questions we are most often asked. As someone who has been fly fishing for many years and has even taught children and adults, we believe that we have a pretty good handle on what it takes to get started with fly fishing. We also know how to put together your gear so that you can both get started and also develop as a fly fisherman.
You may also want to see our various fly sets , which are assembled and mounted so that you only have to tie one fly at the tip.
Is fly fishing difficult?
No, fly fishing is not difficult. You can easily catch fish right away.
You will find that fly fishing is much easier than you think, as long as your tackle is correctly put together. This means that you need to have the right fly line that suits your fly rod and the type of fishing you want to do.
Remember that you don't have to be a world champion at casting before you can start fishing. You learn an incredible amount from being out and about, which is why we always recommend learning by the water. If you want to have great experiences with a fly rod in your hand, then that's the one you should use. Therefore, leave the spinning rod at home, so you "have to" learn while you're out and about.

How far can you cast with a fly rod?
You can cast approximately 30 meters with a fly rod. This is equivalent to a regular WF fly line. When fishing, you will rarely cast more than 20 meters with a one-handed fly rod .
The same actually applies to a two-handed fly rod if you are fishing in Denmark. Our waterways are not particularly wide, and to reach the fish, you often cast across the stream.
Here , Skagit lines and other short shooting heads are popular as they can easily make these casts.
Which fly should I choose?
You need to choose the fly that suits the fishing and the conditions. That's why you can never just have one fly in the box, but you should always have several alternatives ready.
Generally, you can choose between flies that imitate prey, or a fly that provokes a fish to bite.
If you are going to the coast, we highly recommend taking a look at our coastal flies.
We've created a comprehensive guide to fly fishing for salmon and sea trout , each of which dives into fly selection and techniques that will increase your chances of catching them.

How do you fly fish?
You use a fly rod, which is a fishing rod that uses your line, the fly line, as a casting weight. This is different from a regular spinning rod that uses bait as a casting weight. As a fly fisherman, you control and cast the fly with your hand, rather than reeling the line onto a reel. Your bait is called a fly, hence the name fly fishing, and they can either imitate the fish's prey or provoke a bite.
As a fly fisherman, this is what you have to decide on the day - do you want to imitate prey, or provoke.
Daniel covers all of this in our series: fly fishing for beginners, which can be viewed here on the site, or on Youtube .
Crack and break
You always get better with practice, and that goes for fly fishing too. Even if you've just started our fantastic hobby, there are already many great experiences to be had, even if you're a beginner in fly fishing. Tying your own flies is an experience in itself, catching something on them is almost epic.
Of course, we have a fly tying set for beginners , so you can also get a good start on this part of the hobby.
Remember that many simple flies catch lots of fish.
